Naples Day 2

Definitely a chill out day yesterday, in the nice cool shade as the sun was incredibly strong. 

Did absolutely nothing at all. Just a shame about my fave pool being out of action, which meant no dip. I did go and sit on the ground next to the kids' pool so I could dangle my feet in the water, which was lovely... except I couldn't get up again! My knees don't work well and I haven't been able to kneel since several falls on ice wrecked them. 

It took the rather middle-aged lifeguard on duty to get me on my feet again! Mercifully the Italians round the pool didn't bat an eyelid, but I won't be doing that again!

It's been getting hotter the further south we go. Now up in the 30s at our most southern destination. 

To Orvieto

We left Alpnachstad after breakfast for the second long drive. It was a nice morning there. 

It was getting cloudier and cloudier though and the mountain tops became shrouded in mist. 

Eventually it was raining quite a bit - typical English Bank Holiday weather (apart from in the Gotthard Tunnel, where temperatures soared to over 30 degrees Celsius!). 

However, once over the Alps, the weather started to clear and warm up nicely outside too, eventually topping out at a very pleasant 28C on arrival in Orvieto some 400 miles south from Alpnachstad. 

Hotel Orvieto, tonight's stop, bathed in sunshine. 

On to Napoli tomorrow. Looking forward to that hotel pool!

The Long Drive

We did about 550 miles today. London to Scotland, except it was Coquelles in France to Alpnachstad in Switzerland this time. Piece of cake to Cally! 

France was pretty empty as it was Sunday. No lorries!

Nice sexist poster to get people to concentrate on their driving!

The Third Member Of The Party

There's 3 of us on this trip - the third and most important member being Cally The Beemer (7 Series no less). Comfy inside and lovely outside!

Across The Channel

Well here we are in Calais for the night. Got Come Dine With Me on TV and just chilling for an hour till dinner.

I knew we were on our way with the first view of the sea...

The Ferry was late and chock a block with Europeans going home, hence the cars out on the lorry deck. Ours was indoors thankfully.

Straight off the ferry into the rain!

All cleared up tomorrow when we're off to Switzerland!
