It was getting cloudier and cloudier though and the mountain tops became shrouded in mist.
Eventually it was raining quite a bit - typical English Bank Holiday weather (apart from in the Gotthard Tunnel, where temperatures soared to over 30 degrees Celsius!).
However, once over the Alps, the weather started to clear and warm up nicely outside too, eventually topping out at a very pleasant 28C on arrival in Orvieto some 400 miles south from Alpnachstad.

On to Napoli tomorrow. Looking forward to that hotel pool!
